Microdermabrasion is
considered an alternative to a chemical peel. It entails treating
the face with sterile micro-particles to rub off the very top skin
layer, followed by removal of the sloughed skin cells. The
technique exfoliates and gently resurfaces the skin, promoting the
formation of new smoother skin. It is usually performed on the
face and neck. Microdermabrasion can improve rough skin texture,
some types of mild scarring, uneven pigmentation, and superficial
brown spots. It is also useful for acne lesions, blackheads, and
fine wrinkles. One of the advantages of microdermabrasion is that
it can be safely used for all skin types. The results are similar
to a light chemical peel with minimal discomfort, no need for
anesthesia, and little or no downtime.
The procedure is
performed in the office setting and is relatively simple. Through
a wand-like hand piece, tiny aluminum oxide or salt crystals are
delivered at high velocity onto the skin surface and immediately
vacuumed away with the same instrument, taking the outermost layer
of dead skin cells with it. The pressure can be varied to control
the amount of penetration, or pass over an area several times to
remove the most damaged skin. Each treatment will take about 30
minutes. A typical regimen consists of a series of four to eight
treatments done at intervals of two to four weeks. Immediately
after the procedure, makeup can be applied. The skin will have a
pink glow that will fade within a few hours. Multiple sessions of
microdermabrasion can be part of a combined treatment plan
involving other resurfacing procedures such as peels and lasers.

Chemical Peel
A chemical peel, or chemexfoliation, involves the application of one or more exfoliating agents to the skin, causing the destruction of portions of the epidermis and/or dermis. The "wounding" of the skin layers leads to subsequent regeneration of new epidermal and dermal tissues. A particular peeling agent is chosen based on a patient's skin type and the problems that need to be addressed.
In our practice, we will select the best chemical or chemical mix for you after a thorough evaluation. In some cases, we may choose to use a combination of chemicals for your procedure to tailor the treatment specifically to your skin type and condition. A peel treatment begins with cleansing the skin and removing all traces of grease with rubbing alcohol or acetone. The face is then rinsed with water and blown-dry with a small fan. The solution is applied to the treated areas with a sponge, cotton pad, cotton swab or light brush. We apply the peeling agent so that all areas of the skin to be treated are covered evenly. A grey-white film, referred to as "frost", develops on the skin by the end of the application. The peeling solution is left in place for a few minutes and then thoroughly neutralized or removed with water.
We often prescribe medications to prepare the skin prior to the peel treatment to decrease the chance of bacterial infection and pigmentation changes. The presence of active skin infections including rashes, acne and cold sores is a contraindication to a chemical peel. Accutane® should be stopped for a period of 12-18 months before a treatment, depending on your doctor's specifications. Patients undergoing a perioral chemical peel should receive prophylactic acyclovir to minimize post-treatment Herpes simplex infection. You will be asked to limit your sun exposure for at least a month before chemical peeling, and to refrain from shaving or waxing facial areas for several days or weeks. You should wear loose clothing that zips or buttons up the front, and refrain from wearing makeup on the day of treatment. Darker skin poses special considerations due to increased risk of undesirable skin pigmentation changes.

Individualized Facials
These are facials given specifically to target the patient's needs. Some facials are to target aging, rosacea, acne, and also for the male gender. Types of facials might include Vitamin C masks, salicylic peels, teen facials, deep pore cleansing, and collagen facials among others. Individualized facials are perhaps the most popular among the public that are offered in spas, retreats, and specialized esthetics services. Within the facials service, one might also encounter massages along with cleaning and exfoliating in the process. Independent of the facial one chooses the experience is always a relaxing and uplifting!

Prepares the skin before a laser or plastic surgery is done to stimulate a better healing and protect against bleeding and bruising. The most common products used for the skin are vitamins A, C, E. Though it is common to find a combination of vitamins and supplements to maximize the healing effects of the surgery. Thus, stimulators, antioxidants, and growth hormones can be used externally as part of the preparation. The results for skin care varies from individual as each individual has different skin types, texture, and if there are pre-existing sun-damage or if one is a smoker. Other precautions are also taken into consideration as well prior surgery such as medications to avoid, rest, hiring a nurse if necessary, type of foods and preparation for after the surgery as well as suitable clothing for after the operation.

Corrective Camouflage
Used for loss of pigmentation, dark circles, skin burns and discoloration, vitiligo, scars, stretch marks and after surgeries to conceal scars and other blemishes that could occur in a post surgery. The make-up can be based on mineral products, with tones and colors that are formulated to blend in to the individual's needs. For a longer-lasting effect, products should be waterproof, smudge resistant, quick dry, and have an easy application. The procedure involved consists of mainly to neutralize the affected area with an opposing color and create an even skin tone. Among products' use there are powders, cream, concealers or foundations. Corrective camouflage is an alternative for lesser expense than laser and a great way to look with a flawless skin tone.

Waxing
Waxing is a very popular method of hair removal that can be done in several places including hair salons to spas and more specialized aestheticians and cosmetologists. Common areas in waxing include legs, arm, back, leg, bikini, full face and eyebrows. Methods in waxing can be done with hot or cold wax. Waxing is beneficial since hairs takes longer to grow back (around three to eight weeks) and the hairs are usually softer than when shaved. A couple of drawbacks include that the removal is not permanent, the might be a short-lasting pain. Waxing is usually easier done by an esthetician whereas home waxing can also be done, but might be difficult to manage in some parts of the body. Also, waxing may cause hair follicles to shift, resulting in altered hair growth.

Permanent Cosmetics
Permanent make-up (cosmetic tattooing) can be a solution for many changes in the face that occur with aging. Over time, lip color fades and small vertical lines begin to appear on the edges of the lips. Lip contour also becomes flatter with less definition of the vermillion border as you get older, and eyebrows become thinner requiring regular application of eyebrow pencil.
Permanent lip liner and lip color eliminates the "bleeding" of lipstick into the vertical lines around the lips and into the creases at the corners of the mouth. Permanent eyebrow color is a time saver and allows for a consistent appearance of the eyebrows. When your eyes are no longer focusing as well and your hands are not as steady, permanent eyeliner is priceless.

Biomedic Micropeel
The
MicroPeel®
is a three-step process
that removes a micro-thin top layer of skin. The top layer is
a significant obstruction to having better skin because it is
pore-clogged. The procedure is safe, effective and is accomplished
in about 30 minutes.
-
Step
One
The first step is a
five minute, physical or enzymatic exfoliation of the skin.
This frees the skin of dead cellular layers and protein. And
by reducing the top layer of the skin, it also lessens the
appearance of fine lines and brown spots. A change in skin
texture can be felt right away by brushing your hand across
your cheek.
-
Step
Two
In the second step,
a 15-30 percent Alpha Hydroxy Acid solution is applied. It
will stay on the skin for at least 10 seconds, but no more
than 2 minutes. A slight stinging sensation may be felt, but
it is only momentary and quite normal. This part of the MicroPeel®
helps to reduce acne related conditions by freeing impacted
debris from the pores. This step is not recommended for sensitive
skin.
-
Step
Three
The third and final
step of the MicroPeel® is a skin freezing process called Cryogenic
Therapy. Carbon dioxide is applied to the face in light, circular
motions. Immediately the coolness causes an anti-inflammatory
response. Pores look smaller. Sun damaged cells are cast off.
Oil and blackheads are unblocked. The surface of the skin
becomes smoother.
This Combination therapy
will evenly exfoliate the skin, and encourage faster cellular
turnover. Excellent to control breakouts and create even
skin tone. Visible clarity is restored to your skin.
