LABIAPLASTY / Labia Rejuvenation NEW JERSEY
Labiaplasty refers to surgical modification of the labia majora (outer lips) or labia minora (inner lips) to correct a problem or to improve the appearance of the area. There has been an increasing number of women seeking this procedure, which may be a result of increased awareness of genital appearance due to nude images in magazines, movies and on the Internet. Enlargement of the labia, also known as labia hypertrophy, may be congenital or may be acquired in association with increased sexual activity, childbirth or aging. Some women who require reduction of the labia minora have functional problems including poor hygiene, mechanical interference, pain, or chronic irritation, but most women have surgical correction for psychological reasons. They may suffer from embarrassment or loss of self-esteem in sexual situations or they may become self conscious when wearing tight-fitting clothing. Enlargement of the labia majora is rarely a functional problem and reduction or rejuvenation is usually performed for psychological reasons alone. Overall, labia majora modification is less commonly performed than labia minora reduction.
